Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace was certainly not the most lauded movie of the beloved franchise, but there are at least two people that are glad that it was made! If you re-watch this movie today you can glimpse the humble beginnings of not one, but two actors that are shining stars today. The first is Keira Knightley who can barely be recognized under the significant amounts of makeup she endures to take her place as Queen Amidala’s decoy—which is actually the whole point of her role as Sabe.
Someone that has a slightly less obvious connection to this movie is an actor that perhaps more significantly drives home my motto that you don’t have to start big, you just have to start somewhere. Richard Armitage, who can be seen here as a mere extra aka Naboo Fighter Pilot, is now iconically known as Thorin Oakenshield in the recent bout of Hobbit movies.
Both actors now have much more impressive credits to their name, but we can be inspired by the fact that their early careers held something a little less than a leading role. Stay cool my friends, and please always, always, always remember: you don’t have to start big, you just have to start somewhere.
